History of the Restaurant

121 Artisan Bistro has interesting roots. It began in 2001, as a classic Italian pizzeria named, Louis DeAngelo’s Pizzeria Company. It was a successfully established franchise from Baton Rouge, LA. DeAngelo’s focused on classic NY style pies, calzones, fried eggplant, mozzarella and calamari and fresh crisps salads with house made dressings. When the doors opened here in Lake Charles, it was a huge success and quickly grew to be a landmark in SWLA.

Unfortunately in the spring of 2008, the restaurant tragically burned to the ground in an overnight fire. 8 years of hard work, commitment and progress were gone in a matter of hours. The fire was tragic, but out of the ashes came an opportunity for change & growth. With the support and encouragement of the community, we decided to rebuild and continue the legacy as an independent restaurant. This time with a blend of the old and a more modern look of the future with exciting changes and a new name…Thus 121 Artisan Bistro was born!

We knew our guests wanted their old favorites, but we also saw an opportunity to expand our menu to offer hand cut steaks, fresh fish specials, classic Italian dishes and twists on American favorites all with a SWLA flair. Our goal was to be a great casual to upscale restaurant using the freshest and finest ingredients. We wanted to create great comfort food, using local and regional vendors, providing exceptional service and to become an established landmark in Southwest Louisiana. When one has a choice in Lake Charles for a casual night out or a special event, we want to be that choice.
